... and don't kick me!!
My fondest moment with General Choi was at a seminar in the UK (1990 - as my commemorative cup has reminded me).
While practising Toi-Gye, General Choi noticed a student who was having difficulties jumping on movement 29.
The student was called forward and asked to demonstrate, he again did not get any height just about dragging his
foot across the floor. At this point General Choi said "Lay on the floor". The student did as he was
asked and General Choi performed the technique jumping over him landing in X-stance.
General Choi then said "Get up and perform like me" and as he lay on the floor added ".. and don't
kick me!"
Needless to say, the student, staring at everyone else for inspiration and courage, performed the technique without
touching the General.
A lighter moment in an always entertaining seminar that began with General Choi entering the hall full of very
nervous junior blackbelts, and after the formalities, promptly poured out a series of commands directed at the
class, and wryly smiled to GM Rhee Ki Ha (then VIII degree) when all the front row looked at each other wondering
what on earth he just said.
Master Rhee also smiled and with a laugh replied to General Choi in his native tongue.
After an amusing conversation between the two, that only a Korean could understand, General Choi smiled and continued
his commands in English and using the basic terminology we were familiar with much to the relief of all present!
The term 'not like this, like this' will always remain in fond memory.
General Choi.. Rest in Peace.

At a Tournament
I will never forget, it was when I would have been about 12 years old and at a tournament. I was walking down a
hall to the change rooms. I was by myself - there were a group of students in front of me. They all walked around
the corner and carried on.When I came around the corner, sitting to the other side of the hall with a group of
other men was the General. My bag and jacket I was carrying all hit the floor, I snapped to attention and bowed.
The last group to pass didn't. So the return bow (well nod, really) and smiles were extra rewarding.

"Remember Taekwon-Do need a power. No power no Taekwon-Do! To create power must have sine wave, sine wave,
sine wave, sine wave. This not correct, this not correct, this not correct. This is Karate, this no good".
Everyone out there who has been to even one seminar with General Choi will remember that he will always touch that
area. I could hear him saying it as I was typing it. I will never forget the fond memories with this incredible
man!
